Slowed & Reverb

Help

Where does it work?

On YouTube, YouTube Music and Spotify in your browser (open.spotify.com), on a computer. On other sites the panel tells you it can't do anything there. It doesn't work in the Spotify app, on Twitch or SoundCloud, in Safari, or on phones and tablets.

Can I download or save the slowed version?

No. It changes the song while it plays in your browser and doesn't record anything, so there's no file to keep. When you play the song again with the effect on, you hear it the same way.

It isn't working. What can I try?

Look at the extension's icon first. Pink means it's working. Gray means the effect is off, the site isn't supported, or the song hasn't loaded yet. If it stays gray on YouTube or Spotify:

  1. Reload the page.
  2. On Spotify, open the panel and check whether it's asking you to allow access again.
  3. In Firefox, do the same on YouTube.
  4. If you use another extension that changes audio, turn it off for a moment. Two of them can get in each other's way.

Why does Spotify ask for permission?

Spotify starts its player very early while the page loads, and the extension has to be ready before that. Browsers only allow this if you say yes for the site. So the first time, the panel shows an Allow on Spotify button. Click it, accept your browser's question, and Spotify reloads once. After that it works the same as on YouTube. You can take the permission back in your browser's extension settings whenever you like.

Firefox asks about YouTube too. Why?

Firefox needs your permission to turn the effect back on after you reload a YouTube page. Chrome handles this without asking. Firefox asks once for YouTube and once for YouTube Music.

Why is it off when I open a new tab?

Each tab has its own setting, so a new tab starts with the effect off. Click the icon and it turns on Slowed + Reverb. A tab keeps its setting when you reload it or move to another page on the same site.

Why doesn't speed work on live streams?

YouTube keeps a live stream in step with the broadcast and undoes any speed change right away, so the panel turns the speed slider off there. Reverb and the other effects still work.

Why does it sound robotic or harsh?

A robotic sound usually means Keep Original Pitch is on while the song is slowed down. You can turn it off on the Advanced tab. A harsh sound usually comes from a lot of Saturation together with Low or High turned up, so lower one of them.

Does it work on YouTube videos inside other websites?

Often not, in this version. Open the video on YouTube itself, or the song on YouTube Music or Spotify, and it will work there.

Does it collect any of my data?

No. The sound is changed inside your browser, and nothing about you or what you play is sent anywhere. The privacy policy has the details.

Is it free?

Yes. Everything works as soon as you install it, and there's no paid version. The code is public on GitHub.

Can I turn it on with a keyboard shortcut?

Yes, once you choose the keys. How to use it shows how.

How do I report a problem or get help?

Open an issue on GitHub, after checking whether someone has already reported the same thing. It helps to say which browser you use, which site you were on and what happened, and to copy any message the panel showed. Please leave account names and anything private out of screenshots.

GitHub needs a free account. If you don't have one, or you'd rather not post in public, email slowedandreverbsupport@proton.me. Never send passwords. If you think you've found a security problem, report it privately by email as the security policy describes, not in a public issue.
